Paper bags help to conserve natural resources

WE hear it everywhere : “please don’t use plastic bags”

One of the main reasons is marine Life Protection

According to the Conservation International Organization, plastic litter, which includes plastic bags, kills thousands of marine animals each year. The EnviroLiteracy website explains that plastic bags can block the entrance to the stomach and cause starvation in a number of marine animals, including sea turtles, minke whales and sea birds. Some animals confuse plastic bags with jellyfish or other food and actively seek them out even if they spot them from a distance.

Please use paper bags instead.

Paper bags help to conserve natural resources

The great environmental benefit of using paper bags is that they are made from unbleached, recycled brown craft paper a perfect solution to conserve natural resources, preserve energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. As business owners you could endorse your brand in style by making the use of printed paper bags. In conclusion we can say that there is now no doubt that you need to adopt more eco friendly means to save our environment. One great way to do so is by making use of paper bags. So it is high time that you switch over towards the use of environmental friendly paper bags.

They are a great energy saver

Apart from other benefits of using paper bags, the one reason why it is so eco friendly is that it helps in saving huge amounts of energy. It is generally made from locally available materials, which in terms helps in transportation costs and helps in saving energy.

Paper bags are recyclable

The eco friendly bags are mostly made materials that are easy to get decomposed by the bacteria and other microorganisms. Thus, they take less time to disintegrate into simpler forms.

More good news is that these bags allow for longer and multiple usage. With sizes and thicknesses that can accommodate heavy and big items, there’s no reason to worry of torn bags or unlatched handles in the middle of a shopping spree or damaged loot bags when handing out company goods to clients. Recycled paper bags are long-lasting and sturdy materials.

This kind of bags is safe and light to use. They can also be easily discarded if you do not wish to reuse them. True, those bags when used too many times will eventually wear out. Unlike plastic bags however, that cause health and environmental repercussions because of the toxins from the plastic when disposed of and recycled improperly, those bags including recycled paper bags pose no threat to us and the environment.

Using those bags is a good introduction to employees and clients that your business supports environmentally friendly products and contributes to environmental conservation. This establishes a positive image for your brand.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PRINTED PAPER BAGS?

Using printed paper bags  is a great way to move your advertising campaign into the offices and homes of potential and existing customers.

Printed paper bags  are affordable items that can make your prospective customers and clients interested in your brand.

HOW GIVING PRINTED PAPER BAGS  CAN INVOKE A SENSE BRAND LOYALTY

One of the most important aspects of a successful business is to ensure proper engagement with new customers. What better way to engage with a potential customer than giving away free printed paper bags? It has been shown in studies that giving a gift to your customer increases chances of your customer choosing you over your competitors by invoking a sense of brand loyalty.

HOW HAVING A GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS PAYS IN THE LONG RUN

Building strong meaningful connections with your customers is a quality that will ensure your company will benefit in the long-run. Customers recognise that if companies try and build meaningful relationships with their customers they are more likely to recommend their friends and family to that specific brand, this can be very advantageous for your company in the future.

Building strong relationships can be done by having frequent giveaway competitions on social media such as branded paper bags  or tickets to events. This is great for customers who win the competitions but also it starts to build engagement with the customer base whilst increasing the engagement of your network. Your network can be many different people from suppliers and partners, business colleagues and professionals, potential and existing customers right the way to family and friends.

USING PRINTED PAPER BAGS TO MAKE CUSTOMERS PASSIONATE ABOUT YOU

A great benefit for using printed paper bags  is that customers can develop a passion for your brand, values and products through being engaged emotionally. Consider Coca-Colas 2 year marketing campaign of “share a coke” which consisted of personalised names on Coke bottles in the UK. This campaign created a personal relationship with consumers who could contact coke directly and request their names on a coke bottle. The Coca-cola website stated that during the campaign “Over 730,000 glass bottles personalised via the e-commerce store” This was a great gauge of the customer’s willingness to share information and interest for the brand and increasing interactions with the brand itself.

MOST PRINTED PAPER BAGS ARE PASSED ALONG TO A FRIEND BOOSTING “COST PER IMPRESSIONS”

Due to their useful nature, printed paper bags are typically passed along from person to person. A study from the ASI organisation said that “more than half of the consumers report that they will give away printed paper bags that they are finished with rather than throwing it away.” When a consumer does this your brand image benefits from increased impressions.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BRANDED PAPER BAGS

Branding is key for all businesses. Building your brand is one of the most important activities a company can focus on. But, a lot of companies are scared to invest in marketing without real proof of it working. However, this a paradox in itself, as you can’t get a return on investment from branding if you don’t invest in branding, to begin with. Let’s face it, something as simple as branded paper bags could be what need.

LOOK AT YOUR LOCAL HIGH STREET. THEN LOOK AT THEIR BRANDED PAPER BAGS.

Every chain store has invested in branded paper bags to create brand awareness. The goal of branded paper bags and branding itself is to show popularity. If every other person on the high street has a Tesco shopping bag, it means two things; that there’s a Tesco very close by, and secondly it must be one of the better supermarkets on the high street due to its popularity.

This logic gets more powerful when you start talking about fashion and clothes shops. Fashion depends on people. If they follow the trends, it lives. If they don’t, it dies. For example, a new designer opening on a lesser seen area of the high street – her business is dependant on being found. This is the exact same thinking when it comes to shopping online. If you’re not promoting and being found, you’re not selling. And you’re not Selling, it’s only a matter of time till you have to close your doors, so to speak.

THREE RULES OF BRANDING TO TAKE AWAY.

YOUR LOGO IS A REFLECTION OF YOUR BUSINESS.

Virgin Media, Airlines, Mobile, Trains, and Virgin America. These are all pieces of Richard Branson Empire. The main reason you can tell this is that the Virgin Logo hasn’t changed since he first selected it for his Recordstore. This rule is proven by most of the big brands we enjoy today, Macdonalds Golden arches, Coca-Cola, IBM, Apple, Twinnings tea, Cadburys, Guinness. These are all brands that are unmistakable by their logos.

YOUR STORY MAKES YOU SPECIAL.

When Richard Branson started selling records, he sold them from the boot of his car outside school. Steve Jobs was a guy working out of his parent’s garage with two of his friends when they started Apple. The largest gambling company in the Czech Republic was started off by a teenager as a slot machine repair operation working out of a garage. Everyone loves a story. At the end of the day the only thing that makes us different, is our own story. This is why we pay such attention to brands that have a story.

FINALLY, BE SEEN. BRANDED PAPER BAGS HELP YOU DO JUST THAT.

Our shopping habits have changed drastically in the last few years. We no longer go down to the high street to check out the latest fashion trends, nor do we even shop down there. Everything is done from where ever we’re most comfortable. Shopping can be ordered on the bus home, from the sofa or even while you’re on the toilet. But the logic of marketing is still the same…Be Seen! Preferably be seen for the right reasons :P, Having your logo seen by potential customers will always pay off in the long run. Word of mouth and reputation are still as valuable as ever for businesses, even though it might take a little bit more of a push to get customers talking about you

Have you ordered your printed paper bags for christmas this year yet?

Most retailers will be bracing themselves this month as the festive shopping season gets into full swing. But as you prepare for the run up to the big day, it pays to consider how bags and packaging printed with your logo could help boost awareness of your brand. Check out our advice below on festive themed bags, along with some examples from our Facebook account (www.plastol.co.uk) of some of the previous bags we have designed.

Festive Bag Design

Some brands like to create special versions of their retail bags for the Christmas shopping period. You can add a seasonal touch to your current bag logo or go all out with a special festive bag design.

Its good to plan ahead, especially when it comes to ordering printed  paper bags so now is also the time to consider whether you want to order some custom printed bags ready for the January sales. Add a simple ‘sale’ slogan to your existing bag design or go for a pop of colour to make your bags stand out to other shoppers.

The stylish and attractive look of your logo and company name on paper bags give sophistication and elegance to your brand . Catchy printed paper bags always attract the attention of prospective customers and make them consider your brand.

Most people often reuse their paper bags carefully. This implies that years after a particular customer gets your printed paper bags, they can still be actively helping you advertise.

Paper bags to advertise your business

It’s entirely possible you’ll never give printed paper  bags a second thought – until you start up a business. Until that point, you would use them to carry home precious purchases from your latest shopping trip. You might even have stashed a few of the better ones away for future use.

But printed paper  bags are an essential part of any business with products to sell – both in terms of practicality and, if you buy printed carrier bags, as an advertising tool for your company. As a result you will need to think about the most cost-effective means of acquiring them. So where do you start?

What to consider when buying printed carrier bags for your business

Ask yourself the following questions to help prepare your brief for a manufacturer or promotions company:

  • What size and weight of products will be going into the bag? This is important, as you may need different sizes or thicknes or particularly strong handles. It may also affect whether you can have paper or polythene carrier bags.
  • Do I want my logo on the carrier bags? This will be more expensive but branding a carrier bag will promote your name and image outside the business. A striking bag is an effective advertisement for the company, particularly in high footfall areas, such as shopping malls or high streets.
  • How many bags will I need? You may be restricted by a minimum order or it may be that you will have a high turnover of stock. Will all your products need separate bags?
  • How much of my budget can go to carriers? This is where you weigh up the other questions. For example, you may need stronger bags so you might not be able to have so many colours on them. What is most important to your business and how much value will it add?

Printed paper bags are also very affordable. Just using the paper bags for product packaging gives you value for your money. Your paper bags printed with your business info virtually give you free and effective advertising.

Printed paper bags are also effective in packaging of delicate goods that are not too heavy. They can thus be used by several industries and fields such as travel souvenirs, political campaigns, corporate imaging and consumer brands amongst several others.

The stylish and attractive look of your logo and company name on paper bags give sophistication and elegance to your brand compared to a polythene bag that is plain looking. Catchy printed paper bags always attract the attention of prospective customers and make them consider your brand.

Most people often reuse their paper bags carefully. This implies that years after a particular customer gets your printed paper bags, they can still be actively helping you advertise.

This is PLASTOL’S checklist for keeping employees happy and fulfilled

Here at PLASTOL where we produce top quality printed paper bags we like to create stress-free time at work.

As a business owners, it’s our job to establish procedures that will keep our employees happy and motivated.

Before diving into specific advice, here at Plastol where we produce printed paper bags we know it’s important to realize that every workplace has its own dynamics. And, much like how a principal doesn’t have a grasp of how schoolchildren treat each other in the trenches, a CEO doesn’t necessarily know all of the interpersonal dynamics that go on amongst their employees. Many of the most hostile, toxic actions taken in a workplace come in an attempt to curry favor with the boss.

Therefore, it’s important to keep an even hand, avoid showing favoritism and always be aware of your lowest-performing employees. Finding out why they’re underperforming can help you boost your entire workplace.

Here are few tips from direct manufacturer of printed paper bags:

Provide tools for success

It’s often much more effective to give your employees direction and tools to accomplish their goals than it is to set down rigid guidelines and a process they must follow.

Make training and learning available

We offer wide variety of trainings to our employees as we train them specifically for each of our machines – printer, laminator and press machine.  Most people naturally want to better themselves, if for no other reason than to further their career. When we empower our employees with knowledge and skills, we keep them up to date.  Our employee turnover drops, our productivity stays high and we keep up with modern developments.  Our employees meanwhile feel valued; we are investing in them, so we must want to keep them around.

Thank employees for good work

When we have busy day at our production unit we are all tired. It’s cheap and easy to say thank you to an employee, whether they’re bringing a bit of workplace drama to our attention or solving a long-standing problem within the company. A verbal thanks, a kind note or an appreciative email can go a long way.

Offer responsibility, don’t assign

Some people thrive under a challenge. Others are the perfect team players, and like it that way. Reversing roles and assigning responsibility to someone who doesn’t hold up to the pressure can be disastrous. We offer the responsibility to the team leaders who want to take it, and allow those who prefer to work cooperatively to do so.

Provide workplace flexibility

Sometimes someone has a situation where they can continue working for our company, but would prefer to have two days a week telecommuting to spend time with family or to take over while someone is sick. Rather than lose their goodwill, morale and productivity by forcing them to take sick days, why not allow that flexibility? As long as they can continue to contribute, there’s no reason to pin them down.

We hope that you have enjoyed reading few work tips about  how we keep our employees happy here at PLASTOL where we produce top quality printed paper bags.

We are direct manufacturer of printed paper bags and our prices can rarely be beaten

THE ADVANTAGES OF BUYING DIRECTLY FROM THE MANUFACTURER

When plastol first started selling a few years back, We weren’t surprised that we were able to undercut our competition so easily. Most of our competition imports their products all the way from China, bringing with them a massive carbon footprint and an even bigger price tag! Most of the time, Our Most luxurious paper bags with custom handles will still undercut the price of our competitions cheapest model.

The most significant benefits of buying directly from us, our Prices can rarely be beaten. Cutting out the “middle man”, such as wholesalers and retailers who import from China and add their own mark-ups, is a good way to avoid those extra expenses. Our price when buying from us will, therefore, be considerably less, meaning a large discount for the consumer and, with the specialised customer service and bespoke design features in mind too, it becomes an irresistible deal for many.

The benefits of buying directly from us are clear: bespoke designs, expert service, lower prices, better deals on warranties and custom-made products to suit your exact needs.

THE MOST USED TYPES OF LAMINATIONS

DID YOU KNOW WHAT TYPE OF LAMINATION YOU CAN USE ON YOUR PRINTED PAPER BAGS?

Here at Plastol, we offer a range of different laminate finishes on our printed paper bags. We want to  talk you through the main ones we use so you can understand what these are and when you might want to use them in your printing requirements.

Lets take a look at our most popular laminate finishes that we offer as standard on our printed paper bags.

Matt Laminate

This is a  flat finish to your printed paper bags, that gives it that “matt” effect. It is more commonly used professional businesses who are looking for a subtle but stylish finish to their printed paper bags.

Matt Laminate finish is also  good for Business Cards, Folders, Brochures and Menus as it’s very durable and stops cracking and marking, thus giving a longer lifespan to your print.

Gloss Laminate

This is a glossy finish to your printed paper bags, and can often make the print look more eye catching and stand out with this type of finish.

The other main benefit for using Gloss Lam is that it helps prevent with the marking and cracking on the print, again giving a longer lifespan to your printed paper bags.

Velvet Laminate

We are now introducing Velvet Laminate finish to print, which is very unique and is not being used commonly within the industry yet. It adds a new dynamic to your finished printed paper bags with its velvet touch texture. This really is a classy high end finish.

Describing this finish doesn’t really do it justice, what we are recommending for our clients is to request a sample from us so you can feel / see what it will do to your finished printed product.

This finish is slightly more expensive than our Luxury Matt Laminate range, but it really does put your print on the next level, and people will be more intrigued by the finish, and we believe it will take more of an interest in what your business is about rather than it being the same old same old.

To request a print sample pack on any of the above then please email us at info@plastol.co.uk

WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT OUR SUPPLIER OF RECYCLED PAPER ?

When we are using recycled paper for making paper bags we often use our reliable supplier of recycled paper.

We have visited our supplier of recycled paper many times and we thought that we would write a short article about how   they  are actually making recycled paper .

Paper for recycling has to be collected separately from other materials. It is important that it is kept separate from other waste as contaminated papers are not acceptable for recycling. If, in some cases, paper is collected together with other recyclable materials, such recovered paper must be specifically marked.

The requirements of the papermaker must also be taken into account: a packaging manufacturer can use mixed grades of recovered paper while a manufacturer of graphic paper can only use certain recovered paper grades.

The recycling process: pulping

Broadly speaking, the final production process for recycling paper is the same as the process used for paper made from virgin fibres but, as the recovered paper fibres have already been used, they also have to be sorted and cleaned. For certain paper (e.g. graphic paper ) ink has to be removed from the recovered paper, i.e. the fibres have to be de-inked.

As a first step, recovered paper is sorted and graded then delivered to a paper mill. Having reached the paper mill, it is ‘slushed’ into pulp and large non-fibrous contaminants are removed (for example staples, plastic, glass etc.). The fibres are progressively cleaned and the resulting pulp is filtered and screened a number of times to make it suitable for papermaking.

The recycling process: de-inking

Before the recovered paper can be used to manufacture certain grades of paper the printing inks have to be removed to increase the whiteness and purity. The recovered paper is first dissolved in water and separated from the non-fibre impurities.

The fibres are then progressively cleaned in order to obtain the pulp and during this stage the ink is removed in a flotation process where air is blown into the solution. The ink adheres to bubbles of air and rises to the surface from where it is separated. After the ink is removed, the fibre may be bleached, usually with hydrogen peroxide.

We produce recycled paper bags from environmentally friendly paper to your exact graphics and dimensional requirements. The handle is designed in the form of a textile cord or a crosshair with minimum quantity order just 100 bags .

We can also offer to our clients normal delivery 2-3 weeks or express delivery which is 1-2 weeks.

Pantone Colors on printed paper bags – knowing the basics

Last week we wrote short article for you describing  how CMYK style of printing works on your printed paper bags.

CMYK stands for the four common process colors (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) used in most professional printing. Much like when you were a kid mixing red and yellow finger paint to make orange, CMYK colors are created by mixing different percentages of these four primary pigments. CMYK printing is both inexpensive and efficient and we use it very often on printed paper bags.

However, CMYK colors are not always consistent , raising a very common question: “How do I explain to my printing company the exact colors that should be used on my printed paper bags?” Sure, you could send an image via email, but we all know that any given color won’t look the same on paper as it does on screen. That’s where Pantone comes in.

The PMS was created to function as a standard language for color identification and communication. When you say to us , “I want to print an orange 165C on printed paper bags,” you can be sure that we know exactly what color you mean. Often referred to as spot colors, Pantone colors are precise and consistent, and are often used in relationship to corporate identities, in order to insure that the brand does not change from printer to printer. Each Pantone color can be referenced in a swatch book that contains specific numbers for each color ( you can find swatch book on right bottom of our website), along with a CMYK breakdown that best represents that color.

We hope you have enjoyed reading our article.

WHEN WE PRINT YOUR PAPER BAGS WE OFTEN USE FOUR COLOUR PROCESS FOR PRINTING CALLED CMYK

Four color process printing is a system where a color image is separated into 4 different color values (called a color separation) by the use of filters and screens. This used to be done with photographic film on a graphic arts camera, but is usually done digitally with software now. The result is a color separation of 4 images that when transferred to printing plates and sequentially printed on a printing press with the colored inks cyan (blue), magenta (red), yellow and black (the k in cmyk), reproduces the original color image. Most of the entire spectrum or gamut of colors are reproduced with just the four process ink colors.

CMYK Process Printing Features

  • It uses the same 4 standardized base colors all the time (cyan, magenta, yellow and black)
  • Small dots of these colors are printed at different angles to create the printed image
  • The most widely used and cost effective color system in commercial printing
  • It’s significantly cheaper than toner based or digital printing for larger quantity runs

Halftoning

  • To understand CMYK one must know Halftoning. This is the reprographic technique that simulates continuous tone imagery through the use of dots, varying either in size, in shape or in spacing, thus generating a gradient like effect. Tiny dots of each primary color are printed in a pattern small enough that human beings perceive a solid color. Magenta printed with a 20% halftone, for example, produces a pink color, because the eye perceives the tiny magenta dots on the large white paper as lighter as and less saturated than the color of pure magenta ink.
  • Cyan and yellow produce green; cyan and magenta produce a purplish blue, yellow and magenta produce red & all three of them resulting in black.
  • This close-up of printed halftone rasters show that magenta on top of yellow appears as orange/red, and cyan on top of yellow appears as green.

Pantone versus CMYK

Pantone (sometimes known as Pantone Matching System, PMS or spot colour printing) is a colour matching system which is used in offset printing and other special printing circumstances when it is essential that a very specific colour is obtained. Rather than blending the four inks used in CMYK, a precisely blended ink colour is created to ensure that the colour produced is a perfect match to a colour listed in the Pantone swatch guide. While the results are highly accurate, Pantone would be an expensive and impractical option for most printing needs.

We hope you have enjoyed reading article about printing techniques that we are using for your printed paper bags.

If you are thinking of ordering some printed paper bags for your brand please email us at info@plastol.co.uk

How does UV Spot lamination work on printed paper bags

When placing orders and searching for printed paper bags you may have come across the term ‘Spot UV’. Let’s take a look at this fantastic technique and see how it works on printed paper bags.

What Is Spot UV?

The UV varnish is a thick, transparent coating which is dried using Ultra Violet (UV) light. Although it can be applied to the whole card the ‘Spot’ element of the process is worth mentioning, this is the practise of picking out a particular element of the design to give a great contrast with the rest of the design to make an eye-catching, long lasting impact

How Does It Work?

For a standard UV coating the sheets are fed through the machines with rollers that flood the sheet with UV coating, this is then fed under both a set of Infra Red and then UV lamps which dry the coated sheets instantly. For the spot process the UV varnish will be spread across a die-cut template, most often a very thin film which is placed over the sheet in order to ensure that only the required elements of the design are coated to create the desired contrasting effect. Once the varnish is dry it proves a far hardier coating than the usual semi-aqueous coated papers.

Why Is This The Product For You?

Spot UV is the ultimate in deluxe printing techniques; it provides a unique and exceptional way to introduce yourself and is the perfect way to make a lasting impression. With the high clarity and eye-catching varnish, we recommend pairing the Spot UV with a Matt Lamination to add real contrast and depth to your design as well as receiving another boost of durability from the lamination process. The thick UV varnish will also give a smooth but tactile quality to the products leaving you with the perfect way to promote your business with something that nobody will want to throw away!

How To Submit Your Spot UV Artwork

When submitting artwork for Spot UV work we prefer two versions; the first will be your work as you wish it to appear and the second will need to be with the elements that you would like the UV varnish applied to marked clearly in a clashing colour such as 100% Magenta. This will enable us to pinpoint exactly where you would like the varnish applied to ensure that your order is to your exact specifications

Advantages of manufacturing printed paper bags

Apart from different types printed paper bags, We also make 100% recycled paper bags, express Order paper bags and paper promotional products.

Small stands, flags, foldings and tags of variable shapes, sizes, colours and surface finish according to your wish.

Do it for David – swap plastic for recycled paper bags

Although experts and consumers are pushing for more recycling, Britain is having trouble keeping up. Right now, twice as much waste is being burnt in incinerators than 8 years ago, and 18 more incinerators are actually being built as we speak. So, what can we do to make a difference?

As the war between paper and plastic bags seems to be heating up, we thought we’d take a look at paper bags and how recycled paper bags can make a difference – even if it’s just you using them.

Why are plastic bags so bad?

Even as far back as 2010, nearly 1 trillion plastic bags were being used a year worldwide. Approximately 100,000 sea animals die a year because they mistake these bags for food, on top of the fact that there is a plastic patch twice the size of the US currently floating around the Pacific ocean. No matter how you recycle plastic – it will always be plastic, just in a different form.

Are paper bags better than plastic?

A while ago, paper bags hit the headlines for not being as environmentally friendly as they were first made out to be. Yes, if paper bags are not made sustainably, deforestation is somewhat of a worry. Nowadays, however, paper bag manufacturers are doing all they can to combat this which is why companies like us are now making paper bags out of recycled material. Being biodegradable, compostable, and recyclable, paper bags are definitely the better choice.

What are the benefits of paper bags?

If you were to try to come up with 10 benefits of plastic bags, you’re going to be here for some time. Paper bags, on the other hand, have plenty. If looked after right, they can be continually reused. Should they break, they can simply be recycled and made into new paper bags – giving them a pretty much never ending life cycle. And recycling paper bags actually requires less energy that it does to make plastic bags.

What can we do to help?

When you go shopping, why not use a paper bag rather than buying plastic ones? By only using paper, you’ll also be putting pressure on the businesses where you buy from to ditch the plastic, just like Primark has done. Also, if you run a company who gives out gifts, why not use paper bags to put them in? Or if you’re looking to give out gifts yourselves, paper bags really do make a beautiful alternative to wrapping paper.

We recently saw in Blue Planet II the devastating impact plastic is having on our environment. Sir David Attenborough showed us first hand how sea life are getting caught up in plastic, and how sea life are getting poisoned by plastic pollution. The oceans are dangerous enough as they are, let alone with the threat of plastic being thrown into the mix. It’s time we did something about it. Are you with us?I

If you’re looking for someone to help you make beautiful recycled paper bags, or you’d just like to find out more about them, get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.

Our charity toyraiser for Let Them Play

Plastol let them play

Giving something back to the community is something so important. And when we found out we could help those less fortunate than us further away from home, we jumped at the chance to do so. Being a family business with the next Plastol CEO just 3 years old, we thought there was no better way to help than by helping orphans in Iraq.

Who are let them play?

The situation in Iraq has been hitting the headlines for the last decade, and many innocent children have been affected by what’s going on there. Let them play is a charity that helps bring a smile back to orphaned Iraqi children by collecting new and used toys and art supplies from around the UK and shipping them out to their new home in Iraq.

What did Plastol do to help?

After Christmas, we organized to have literally bags full of toys collected from mums around our local area. We then drove them up to Birmingham so that let them play could get them ready for shipping out to Iraq. These toys will not only give the children something to smile about after having been through so much, they’ll help the childrens’ development as play plays such a vital role in that.

Thank you!

We’d like to say a massive thank you to all the mums who donated, namely Hester Lucy, Hannah Scandolo, Aneta Kurster, Laura Hopkins, Vicky Louise Shadbolt, Davida Sharland, Sarah Dyer, Anna Ledingham and Bella Eftstratiou. We couldn’t have done it without you 🙂

Laminating machines for printed paper bags

This week we thought we’d share a bit of info with you about our laminating machine, especially as we’ll be posting a video about how it works very soon!

The reason we’re doing this is that most of our clients actually have their printed paper bag laminated.

When you get your paper bags laminated, you can choose between gloss and matt lamination. A matt celloglaze gives a smooth, silky finish, and a gloss finish enhances the richness and vibrancy of colour. We’ve also added a velvet feeling soft touch option, too, adding that special effect to your paper bags.

Here are few benefits of laminating printed paper bags:

  1. First and foremost it stops the paper underneath from cracking. This is often noticeable when dark solid colours are printed over folded areas, so a laminate bonds itself to the clay surface of the paper and stops it cracking.
  2. Laminating protects your printed paper bags. It’s ideal for creating a protective layer against substances such as water, oil, or grease; and is actually a common requirement in food and beverage packaging. It really helps to protect the print and stops the colours fading.
  3. It acts as a light ‘Block out” barrier. Some laminations are used to create an inside adhesive layer able to block the transmission of light. This “block out” coating is popular for many products that need to keep light from showing through the other side.

Laminated paper bag

Just so you know, laminate or celloglazing is generally only suitable for printed paper bags stocks over 170gsm. Anything below this weight can crease as it goes through the machine.

Getting ready for Packaging Innovations 2018 in Birmingham

Attending the Packaging Innovations  2018?

Here are some tips to keep in mind

1)  Bring help!

As you should probably know that running a stand at an exhibition is a full-time job. It should never stay unattended. Also, you going need some breaks during the day. This is why you should always bring a partner with you, a family member, a pal or even a student. Bonus points if they’re friendly and chatty.

2) Dress appropriately

All our team will be dressed comfortably in the vernacular of our trade by all means but, may we suggest, at least one notch up from the majority of our likely visitors. A fabulous product display with printed paper bags could be so easily ruined by scruffy stand-staff.

3) Get there early,

For us, it’s obvious, not just in terms of getting a good parking space. but also give you time to set up properly without panic. We also want to  find out where the loos are and where we can get refreshments, and check our pitch is to our liking and properly signed and supplied. Then, we go and make friends with the organisers, check-out who else is exhibiting, and maybe catch-up with old friends briefly who are also exhibiting – attending(you may not have time later), if only out of courtesy.

4) Get Style

Make sure you take the time to work on your booths style.  Check printed paper bags, materials, and handles are all facing outward and look attractive. Don’t forget to hide away your personal things and old coffee cups! At Plastol, We specialise in printed paper bags. We know how to create eye-catching designs and Always guarantee the highest quality. We’re so proud of our high standards, that literally anyone ccan email and request a free sample.

6) Do not pounce, be welcoming

Perhaps the worst thing for us selling printed paper bags here is to say “Can I help you’? The simple answer for many passers-by is to say “No” and to go away. We can do so much better than that. Our way of engaging with potential clients is to engage in eye-contact and smile;

– then, for those who return our eye-contact, ask something general and neutral such as: “What’s the weather like out there?”; “Have you come far?”; “That’s a fabulous scarf/tie/shirt you are wearing!“; or even “How are you?” or “What do you make of the exhibition so far?”. Remember, most people prefer to buy from people they like, and will run a mile from those they don’t, so the first task may well be only a gentle relationship-building exercise;

Even if they aren’t interested, try trade business cards with them. This is really important for the Follow up.

7) We prepare for the follow-up….

After all the hard work of attending exhibition with our printed paper bags, it is so tempting to pack up and go home, take a hot bath and rest our weary feet, and then deal with all the emails and post we have missed while we were  away!

This is the most important step. The Follow up after any conference is pivotal, as this is the deciding factor of whether or not you hear from this companies again. The follow up is where you take all of your newly acquired business cards, and send each contact a friendly standardised email. The Email should be nice and short with the conference title in the subject. this is a simple, yet effective way of turning leads into sales, even if it does take awhile to see results.

But this is sheer folly. For most people who will attend exhibition like us with our printed paper bags, this is when the ‘real work’ starts, converting all those precious qualified leads into sales. So do prepare your standard follow-up contact-messages and literature in advance, set yourself a deadline to get these out — within the next week and do make time for all those invaluable, top-priority follow-up calls

(Do you want a horror-story? — from a small company I know who invested a fortune in exhibiting overseas for the first-time. The team came back, exhausted but exhilarated, with several hundreds of valuable leads. But they were completely unprepared to deal with them. They never sent out a follow up or made contact with potential leads, What a waste!)

We hope that you have enjoyed reading few tips from us on getting ready for exhibitions.

And do not forget we are direct manufacturer of printed paper bags and we have the best quality and price from all UK suppliers.

bills, projects, deadlines, appointments, worries, demands etc.
3)Our goals for printed paper bags must be smart
-measurable and attainable, realistic -but not too easy 😉
-relevant – do they make sense
-timely -goal without a deadline is really just a dream

We wish you all the best for the new year, and that all your plans become a great success 🙂

And don’t forget if you ever need printed paper bags for your business, you know what makes us different and where to come!

Happy 2018

What motivates you most as a business leader?

When it comes to business, it doesn’t take long for me to come up with a long list of things that motivate me. My first motivation is our clients – helping them with paper bags. And the second? Well, that’s my family. Those of you who have kids will know that no matter how old they are, we worry about what they’re going to do in life. And as a parent, it’s normal to want to provide some kind of safety mat for them. My little boy has just turned 3, and one of my biggest motivations is growing this business so that one day I can pass the baton over my son, and welcome the third generation of the Plastol family into the business.

I feel very lucky to be a part of the business that my father started almost 20 years ago from literally nothing. Back then, the Czech Republic was a very different place to what it is today. Having just become a free country after years of communist rule, there were so many people out there hungry to get a piece of that capitalist pie, which led to a rather crowded market. Plus people really had no idea about the outside world after being confined to the borders of the USSR for so long. Just to put it into perspective, school teachers had literally a few months to go from Russian to English teachers!

As a child, I remember watching my father build Plastol from scratch. It’s such a vivid memory that still spurs me on. I actually used to work for a massive company with over 1000 employees, but I really missed that small company feel. My father cared – these big companies didn’t.

So I guess what I’m trying to say is that my Dad is the leader I want to be. When I was a child I remember him getting up at 4 every morning, having breakfast, checking emails and then setting up the machinery before the staff arrived at 8. He’d then combine manual work on the machines with all the admin tasks needed to keep Plastol running. And once again he’d be the last to leave the office. I want to do him proud. I want to carry on his hard work with his work ethic. And I want my son to get the same sort of motivation I got from my Dad so he grows up to learn that hard work pays off.

So, this Christmas, I am looking forward to sitting back and reflecting on this year’s successes within the business, with my two biggest inspirations. This is my dream, thank you to everyone who is helping our family live it.

Sharing is caring :)

Plastol – where family business is our competitive advantage

You hear a lot about family businesses nowadays. So why should you choose one?

Family means the world to us. Which is why it’s no surprise that we’ve spent time thinking about the very question posed above. Michaela, our CEO, saw her parents start Plastol when she was just 10 years old. She saw the sweat, strain, and effort they went through first hand just to make sure that she had everything she needed growing up. They had to work hard to get Plastol where it is today, and those tough early days are what gives us the motivation now, to give our clients the best possible service we can.

We’ve built a family business that’s lasted, and now into its second generation. So how did we do it?

Right from the beginning, we’ve had to go the extra mile to make sure that our clients receive the best quality paper bags. We haven’t slacked, and every paper bag that leaves our factory has to meet your standards, and be a paper bag that we’re proud of. We’re also like one big family. Our employees are part of the family, and we look out for each other. We have a laugh, but pull together when deadlines get a bit tight.

As a family business, do you care about any causes?

The environment has to be the cause we feel strongest about. Let’s face it, the ocean is being ruined by paper bags, and so many species are suffering. That’s why we’re proud that all of our paper bags are produced in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way.

Why use a family business?

Using family supplier of printed paper bags can be your biggest competitive advantages. Family owned businesses, after all, deploy brands that have strong market appeal because they convey tradition, hard work, and craftsmanship. Think Levis, Gucci, Ford, Nike, Mars and much more. Part of the success of these companies can be tied back to their family appeal. Finally, our family business will offer you so much more. Not only we have the best prices in the UK for printed paper bags, our minimum quantity order for printed paper bags is 100 pcs and delivery is from 2weeks. Plus most importantly our bags are made with love.

How are paper bags made

Do you know how paper bags are made? Ours are actually made by hand!

When you think of paper bags, you probably think that luxury laminated paper bags come straight from a machine, ready for you the next day. But in reality, it’s a lot more complicated, a bit like making a wine! So, how do we make our paper bags?

  1.  First, we need to receive artwork from you which we will use to set the template background (the cutter).
  2. Once the client is happy with the layout of the artwork on the template, we’ll then have to make sure that the template is the right size for their paper bag. It’s not as easy as it sounds, though. It sometimes takes years of experience to learn how to use the cutting machines.
  3. We’ll then cut all the paper that’s needed for that individual order, and then send it to be laminated. This is done using one of our factory’s biggest machines, and operating it takes a lot of practice.
  4. We’ll then need to know what tyme of lamination you want. Most of the time it is matt or gloss.
  5. Once we have everything printed, we’ll give the cut pieces of papers to our team. They will then glue the printed paper bags together. Once again it’s not an easy job as it’s quite repetitive and takes a lot of care to get it ready for dispatch.
  6. Then we’ll fix the rope or ribbon handles that have been chosen. If you’re wondering what sort we offer, here’s a couple of pictures for inspiration!
  7. And that’s it, the final piece of the puzzle is sending them out to you, so that you have them ready and waiting for when you need them!
So, if you’re looking for help with anything paper bag related, you know where to find us!

Embossing and Debossing

We make your bags De’Boss!

Debossing technique – Plastol

This week at Plastol, We’re looking at debossing (lowered) and embossing (raised) techniques. This is one of the best ways to add a really special finishing touch. Its the perfect way to make your logo stand out more.

Emboss technique with Gold leaf

Debossing and embossing are the processes of creating either raised or recessed relief images and designs in paper and other materials. An embossed pattern is raised against the background, while a debossed pattern is sunken into the surface of the material (but might protrude somewhat on the reverse, back side).

After the printing stage, The uncut Print is fed into a stamping machine which has a custom-made stamping plate known in the industry as a “Die”. The Die is made up of two interlocking plates featuring your logo or image. As the paper is fed through the stamper, the Die creates a raised or sunken impression on the paper

Die prices are based on image size and detail. It’s always best to share your artwork with us, so we can provide accurate pricing. We prefer to use paper stock with some tooth, so when we emboss or deboss it flattens out the paper and makes the artwork more obvious.

100% Plastic Free Bags!

This weeks challenge is to make printed bags for a shop that is totally plastic free.

We are very happy that this company has chosen us to make their printed paper bags. We’ve been looking for a project that allows us to show our 100% plastic free range.

Green hedgerow littered with discard plastic bags - Plastol - Printed bags

Recently, I’ve read quite a few sad articles about the terrible impact of plastic bags on our environment. For example that there are more than 500 billion plastic bags in circulation annually and this can lead to catastrophic littering problems. One of the greatest problems is that an estimated 300 million plastic bags end up in the Atlantic Ocean alone. These paper bags are very dangerous for sea life, especially for sea mammals. We are so happy that we can produce recycled paper bags and we recommend them to you all!

Not everyone knows that we can also offer you personalized ribbon. They really provide the perfect finishing touch for wrapping your products. We offer a range of ribbon materials for you to choose from, including grosgrain, satin, herringbone cotton and organza. You can choose from over 100 standard colors or to get an exact color we can provide pantone color matching. We use a range of printing techniques including heat transfer and screen printing, or to really show off your logo or branding, foil printing provides an attractive finish.

Our branded printed bags are beautiful, and offer the perfect touch of elegance for your company brand 🙂

Christmas is Coming!

Plastol Christmas Luxury paper bag

Christmas is Coming!

We are really busy at The Plastol Factory right now as We’re Already in our Christmas busy season.

we have to make sure that all our orders for branded paper bags get printed in right time on our PRINTPLAS FLEXO STACK MACHINE.

Sometimes we have to wait a bit longer for confirmation of artwork from our clients before we can proceed with printing. The trouble is just setting up this machine for printing sometimes takes a few hours, and that is why we always really appreciate clients who do know how much work is involved in making paper bags and send us the artwork as quickly as they can.

Of course printing your artwork on paper is just a beginning of the process. Then we have to use the right template to cut into the paper so the printed bag will have the right shape and size and then we have to laminate it too! We can send our almost final product to our very hard and dedicated. Employees who will glue those large format papers into the shape of the bags. Lastly, we add the last finishing touches of putting ribbon or rope handle in.

It may not be a very complicated process. but it’s our bread and butter and making branded paper bags is something we have been doing for over 20 years. We are so proud seeing our clients showing off their printed paper bags.

Overcoming Challenges

Here’s to overcoming paper bag related challenges, the Plastol way!

At Plastol, we’re proud to say we haven’t missed a deadline yet! (Even if it means driving the delivery ourselves all the way from our factory in Europe over to the UK. And before you ask, yes it has happened!) If we agree to a deadline, we will make sure we give you the highest quality printed paper bags.

Every August, the Plastol factory family takes the first week off to enjoy what’s left of the summer, catch up with family, and really just put their feet up. So as you’d expect, the last week of July is a nice relaxed tidy up week, getting everything ready for when we come back. This is especially needed as we’re currently in the factory’s’ busy season with Christmas coming up.

It was a bit of a shock for us when we had an order for a 1,000 custom bags came in at the end of July, just as we were about to close for the week. Normally an order like this would take almost ten days to ensure the quality of our paper bags.

Our fantastic team spent the last week of July working overtime to ensure that the order was ready to ship. So, we’d like to dedicate this blog post to our team as a huge thank you. They worked endlessly to ensure that the client’s deadline was met.

And before you ask, everyone had a lovely week off and drank plenty of beers! 😛

Virgin Records Logo - plastol branded paper bags

Word of mouth and reputation are still as valuable as ever for businesses, even though it might take a little bit more of a push to get customers talking about you 😛

The Plastol Story

Every company has a story. So for our first blog post, here’s ours.

Plastol - Dusan KravacekPlastol was founded back in the 90s by Dusan Kravacek. Going into business was no mean feat. But after spending over 10 years working in sales for a plastic packaging company, he realised there was a gap in the market. The paper bag market to be exact. Clients would come to him asking if they could help with custom-printed paper bags as well as plastic ones. After researching everything a bit more, Dusan realised there really was a gap in the market for a paper bag printing company. This is what gave him the inspiration to start Plastol.

After taking the massive risk of leaving his job (and many sleepless nights!), Dusan set up a small office in the south of the Czech Republic. He also put together of a small team consisting of himself, a graphic designer, and a sales person. From what could be seen as a very humble start, things at Plastol went from strength to strength.

After a few years, Plastol was ready to grow. Dusan took out a mortgage for the factory and more loans so that Plastol got the best machinery on offer. Having put so much into the business, Dusan knew he couldn’t afford to fail as his family’s future was resting on the success of the business. He decided to hire another 15 people and train them all up in using the factory’s new printers, laminators, and press machines.

We all love a happy ending, and luckily ours has one 🙂 Plastol has gone from strength to strength. Now they’re one of the only companies with their own factories for printing custom-printed paper bags. They also do stationary, promotional materials and paper packaging. The family has also stayed close to heart, as Dusan’s wife Jitka (in the picture on the right with a very close family friend and colleague Ivana) plays a vital role in keeping the company growing. Not only that, their daughter, Michaela, also runs their UK branch.Plastol - Jitka
